OIL FILTERS

What does it do?
Friction is created when machine parts move in relation to each other. In order
to reduce this friction, which causes reduction of efficiency and life of the
machine, we need to create a lubricating oil-film between the moving parts. It
is evident that we need lubricating oil, clean of dirt and damaging particles,
in the machine. This is where the oil-filter comes in.
Apart from lubrication, the oil and oil filter have also following duties:

cooling :
absorb and transport heat from friction and engine heat

cleaning : transport (to the
filter) the contaminating particles from wear and tear as well

as remainders of the combustion process
|
|
sealing : the rings between
liner and piston, simmering etc

silencing of mechanical noises and the combustion
process
|
Unless the contaminating particles are adequately removed from the lubrication
oil and retained by the oil filter, they form together with the oil an abrasive
paste that causes premature engine wear. This leads to major repair costs,
