About 50% of the cabin air filters are in a very bad condition
We are facing a bad situation regarding the cabin air filters of cars. Almost 50% of the cabin air filters need to be replaced immediately or on a very short term. This is the outcome of a national investigation among 400 car drivers, initiated by Sogefi Filtration B.V., producer of, amongst others, FRAM cabin air filters. The state of the cabin air filter was measured with advanced testing equipment. The car drivers were interviewed. It appeared that more than 50% of the male respondents does not know what a cabin air filter is, and the results of not having the cabin air filter replaced on time. The percentage of female drivers not aware of the cabin air filters was higher with 74%. Once explained what a cabin air filter is, and what it exactly does, it appears that 70% of the car drivers assumes that it will be replaced during the regular maintenance visit. The results of the investigation show that this is not the case.
“Missed opportunity for the car branch”
Cees van Duin, director of Sogefi Filtration B.V. in Weesp: “These results are obviously not satisfying. They show that the Dutch car driver finds himself in an unhealthy situation in the car. A malfunctioning cabin air filter makes that gasses and bacteria easy enter the car. Once this is inside the car, it usually stays there. The car driver is then inhaling these detrimental substances. As most of the Dutch car drivers do not know what a cabin air filter is, not to mention the results of the malfunctioning of the cabin air filter, they will not insist on a thorough inspection at the garage. It all depends on the garage itself to replace the cabin air filter, when needed during the maintenance visit”.
